We've gotten this far alone...imagine how far we'll go together!

What does it mean to be part of SOPHMI?

This is a safe space to share experiences with those who uniquely know what it's like to grow up with a parent who hoards (PWH).

  • Being LC/NC (low contact/no contact)

  • Setting hard boundaries about our spaces and gifts from our PWH

  • Worrying about a future crisis for our PWH and how it might impact us

  • Feeling like we were less important than our PWH's stuff

Bringing our shame and pain into the light

Secrets and shame go away when we're surrounded by safe others who witness our stories and offer us a place to be heard...

maybe for the first time.

Important to know

  • Participation is limited to those who are 18 years or older.

  • This is a peer support group and does not take the place of mental health treatment, when needed.

  • It is an expectation that all group members will be in a place where they can turn on their camera, use headphones, or be in a separate room from others to protect the privacy and confidentiality of other group members.

  • We don't give advice or tell others how to engage with their PWH or other family members. The experience of COH and their engagement with SOPHMI recognizes that there are diverse experiences and needs of group members. We share our personal experiences--what has helped or worked and what hasn't without expectation that another group member does the same.

  • We use respectful language and embrace diversity. We won't tolerate aggressive actions but will support each other in naming uncomfortable emotions and choosing healthier ways to respond based upon our individual values.

  • Group sessions are a trip to Vegas: What happens here stays here. PERIOD.

  • Ceci Garrett is here as a peer facilitator and not as a professional MH provider. Please understand that participation in this peer group is not open to those who may be under her professional care elsewhere due to ethical guidelines.
