You finally get a moment to stop… and your mind immediately finds something else.

I just need to reply to that message.
I just need to sort this first.
I just need to check one more thing.

There always seems to be something else to think about, organise or get out of the way before you can properly switch off.

Maybe you’ve spent the whole day thinking, I cannot wait to sit down tonight. But when you finally do, you notice the cup on the side, remember the message you haven’t replied to, start mentally running through tomorrow or suddenly think of something else you should probably sort while you’ve got a minute.

And before you know it, the moment you had to yourself has disappeared.

The strange thing is, you might genuinely want to rest. You might be tired. You might know you need a break. You might even tell yourself that tonight you’re going to do absolutely nothing.

But when you actually stop, your mind doesn’t always stop with you.

Instead, part of you is still scanning.

Have I forgotten something? Is there something else I should be doing? Should I really be sitting here when that still needs sorting?

You might be incredibly capable. You get things done. You remember what everyone needs. You keep on top of work, family, appointments, messages, meals, forms, plans, birthdays and all the tiny things that need remembering.

From the outside, you might not even look particularly overwhelmed.

But somewhere along the way, your mind has become used to being on duty.

Even when nobody is asking anything of you. Even when there isn’t actually anything urgent. Even when you’re supposed to be relaxing.

So stopping can start to feel uncomfortable.

You reach for your phone. You get back up. You find another little job. You start thinking about tomorrow. You tell yourself you’ll properly relax once everything is done.

Except everything is rarely completely done.

There will always be another email, another load of washing, another decision, another job, another person who needs something, another thing you could be doing.

So when exactly do you get to stop?

I Just Need To… is a 90-minute live therapeutic group for women who recognise that constant “one more thing” feeling and want to understand why their mind finds it so difficult to stop.

This isn’t about becoming more organised, learning how to manage your time better or being told to “just relax”.

We’ll look underneath the pattern.

Why your mind automatically searches for the next thing. Why being useful, productive or mentally “on” can begin to feel more familiar than stopping. Why you might genuinely want to relax and yet still find yourself reaching for the next task.

Because often, it isn’t really about the washing, the email or the thing you suddenly remembered.

It’s about what happens inside you when there is nothing left to do for a moment.

Held online via Zoom in a small, supportive group, we’ll explore what keeps you mentally “on”, help you recognise your own “I just need to…” pattern and look at how you can begin to respond differently when you notice yourself automatically reaching for the next thing.

Not by ignoring your responsibilities or pretending your to-do list doesn’t exist, but by beginning to recognise the difference between “this genuinely needs my attention” and “my mind has become so used to being on duty that it doesn’t quite know how to stand down.”

'I'll sit down in a minute, I just need to..."

What if you didn't have to wait until everything was sorted before you could stop?

  • What we’ll explore

    • Why stopping can feel so difficult — even when there’s nothing urgent you need to be doing.

    • What keeps your mind mentally “on” and constantly looking for the next thing to think about, organise or sort.

    • Your own “I just need to…” pattern and what might be driving it underneath.

    • Simple ways to respond differently when you notice yourself automatically reaching for the next task.

    • A short guided visualisation to help you practise what it might feel like to stop without immediately needing to do something else.

    • Space to reflect, ask questions and share in a small, supportive group — with absolutely no pressure to speak if you don’t want to.

You might be wondering...

  • Do I have to speak or share anything personal?

Not at all. This is a small, supportive group and there will be opportunities to reflect and share, but there’s absolutely no pressure to speak. You can take part in whatever way feels comfortable for you.

  • How will the session take place?

We’ll meet live online via Zoom for 90 minutes. There’s nothing you need to prepare beforehand — just find somewhere quiet where you’re unlikely to be disturbed and have a notebook and pen nearby.

  • Is this group therapy?

This is a therapeutic group session combining psychological understanding, guided reflection and practical tools. It isn’t a replacement for individual therapy, and you won’t be expected to discuss anything you’d prefer to keep private.
