Learn Brazilian Zouk through body awareness, presence, and play

Learning dance doesn't need to be difficult - it can be playful, and that's how Thursday evenings are gonna be :)

๐Ÿ“… Dates: Each Thursday (December holidays date will be changed on mutual agreement)
๐Ÿ•— Time: 20:00 โ€“ 21:30
๐Ÿ“ Address: Raฤiฤ‡eva ulica 5, Kvatriฤ‡, Zagreb

๐Ÿ’ƒ What Is Zouk?

Brazilian Zouk is a modern partner dance that originated in Brazil in the early 1990s. It developed from Lambada, after Lambada music faded in popularity and dancers began moving to slower, more lyrical rhythms.

CHARACTERISTICS

Connection: Danced in close or open hold, emphasizing smooth, continuous movement between partners.

Flow: Known for its wave-like body motion, circular patterns, and dynamic turns.

Music: Danced to a wide variety of genres โ€” from Zouk and R&B to pop, chillout, and electronic music.

Style: Combines structure and creativity, allowing dancers to interpret the music with elegance and freedom.

๐ŸŒŽ Zouk Around the World

Zouk has spread far beyond Brazil and is now danced in cities across Europe, Australia, Asia, and the Americas. It continues to evolve through various styles such as Traditional Zouk, Neo Zouk, Lamba Zouk, Soul Zouk, and Flow Zouk, each with its own flavor and musicality.

๐Ÿ’ซ Why People Love It

Many dancers are drawn to Zouk for its musical versatility, graceful movement, and strong sense of connection. This dance, unlike many others, unfolds in three different dimensions (x, y, z), which provides a multitude of more pleasant experiences for the heart.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Zouk Influence

Other dances became inspired by Zouk and began incorporating its fluid and sensual moves. For example, bachata teachers and artists nowadays are learning Zouk and transforming Bachata into a whole new style that goes viral very fast - a style of BachaZouk. And let me tell you a secret... Once a dancer tries Zouk, they no longer want to return to other dance styles, as they have found everything they have been looking for to experience :)

๐Ÿ’ซ About the Course

This weekly Brazilian Zouk course in Zagreb is designed for beginners who want to learn dance in a way that feels natural, connected, and enjoyable.

In this course, you wonโ€™t only learn technique โ€” youโ€™ll also learn to feel at home in your body. Each class supports you in discovering how your body can inform your mind about how to move, rather than trying to control the body from the mind alone.

Classes are designed with a balance of play and structure. Youโ€™ll build a solid foundation in Zouk fundamentals while staying connected to your own rhythm, presence, and sense of joy. The learning environment is open and supportive, encouraging curiosity and authentic connection with yourself and others.

If youโ€™re new to Zouk or simply want to rediscover dance as a form of self-expression and connection, this course offers a gentle yet powerful way to begin.

Important!!!

This beginner's course already has started in November, so we have learned already the foundational basics. To join this group:

  1. You must have been dancing other dance styles for at least 6 months, so you can catch up fast, or...

  2. You join our Intense INTRO Course that I am organizing occasionally. I recommend this regardless of how long you dance other dances. For more info about this, reach out here.

Meet your teacher โ€“ Lilly

Lilly is the first female Zouk dancer in Croatia, with over 18 years of dance experience across various styles, including Ballet, Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, a bit of West Coast Swing, a bit of Tango, Contemporary, and a Pole dance. Her dance journey has always been deeply personal and transformative โ€” a way of exploring emotion, connection, and freedom through movement.

Beyond dance, Lilly has lived her life as a coach and therapist โ€” always exploring the depths of the unconscious and helping others connect to their own truth. Teaching dance for her is not just about movement, but about creating a space for inner growth.

"Just by watching people dance, I can already recognise the challenges they face in their personal lives. Because the way we move on the dance floor is a direct reflection of how we move in life."

โ€œDance, for me, is a life force energy that moves through my body and awakens my heart to new experiences.โ€

๐ŸŒฟ A New Way of Learning โ€” The Somatic Approach

Did you know that the brain is most receptive to new information when the body feels relaxed first?
And the body feels relaxed when the emotional body is at ease.

In this course, we learn through the body into the mind.
Rather than memorizing steps and trying to make the body follow, we begin with how the body feels โ€” relaxed, grounded, and safe. When the body is at ease, the mind opens naturally, and learning becomes effortless and joyful.

This way of learning invites you to stay present and aware. You begin to notice how movement flows more easily when you trust your sensations instead of overthinking them. Step by step, dance becomes not just something you do โ€” but something you experience.

Through this approach, we explore dance as a tool for self-discovery. The focus is not on perfection, but on presence โ€” learning to listen, to play, and to let the movement unfold from within.

โ€œWhen the body feels safe, the dance begins to speak.โ€

Join the journey

Letโ€™s learn to dance with joy โ€” through play, awareness, and connection.
No prior experience is needed. Just curiosity, openness, and the willingness to move.
