Ask Me Anything About the Music Aptitude Test

I receive a high volume of emails with questions about the Music Aptitude Test process which is not surprising as it is a complicated system. I will answer up to 2 or 3 questions in a video recording that will be sent to you within 7-10 working days.

Common questions include:

• Asking me to assess whether certain pieces are suitable for audition

• What is the expected level of playing for a specific instrument

• Whether a child with no musical experience can pass the test

• How the two-stage audition works

• How long it will take to prepare for the scholarship

Please note the content of the test varies each year and I cannot tell you the exact contents of the test as this varies from school to school. I also cannot make an assessment of a student's potential without having heard them perform so I can only give you a rough guideline as to what levels would realistically achieve a scholarship.
