Porsha Production

I'm Phoua Chang, the director and creator of Porsha Production. Since I was a young kid, I've had a wild imagination. Growing up, I found myself experiencing things that most kids probably shouldn't. Born as a shaman with an intense sensitivity to energies, my childhood was quite challenging, to say the least. However, this sensitivity became a creative outlet for me, allowing me to channel those energies into art and storytelling.

I was fortunate to grow up in a family that valued storytelling. Oral traditions were a cherished way of passing down our family history and life lessons. Some of my fondest memories are of sitting with my extended family late into the night, listening to stories shared over dinner or huddled together outside on a makeshift "lev" stretched across the front yard.

In 1995, tragedy struck when one of my uncles drowned after we had immigrated to America. In response, my father began documenting our stories and memories on film. As I grew older, I became even more passionate about the power of storytelling to build connections. My uncle Ying, in particular, inspired me with his love for breaking free from reality through filmmaking.

In 2019, on March 4th, my birthday, I lost my beloved uncle Ying to cancer. His passing left a void in our family, as he had been the light that brought us together and provided a safe space for shared experiences and voices to be heard. The following year, the pandemic hit, forcing the world into isolation and exacerbating my feelings of sadness, grief, and depression.

Living alone for the first time, I felt disconnected from my family and struggled to find my place in the world. However, in my darkest moments, I experienced a spiritual awakening and realized that I was also an empath, able to feel and communicate with those who had passed.

At my lowest point, when death seemed like the only option, I felt the presence of my uncle through a sliver of light creeping through the garage door. In that moment, I understood that there was a reason for my struggles—a purpose. This realization sparked the beginning of The Healing Series.

I started the series with the simple thought that perhaps I wasn't alone in my experiences. Maybe someone out there was feeling the same way but didn't know how to express it. As an empath, I had felt all those energies simultaneously, and I knew that by sharing my story, I could help others find hope and healing.

So, I embarked on a journey to share my experiences, to show others that even in their darkest moments, there is a way out. The Healing Series showcases storytelling's power and human resilience. Though each of us walks a unique path, realizing we walk together offers solace. Let's heal ua ke.
