Meet Josh McGee

Josh McGee hails from the small community of Rocky Hill in Knoxville, TN. His culinary education began just four blocks down the street from his family home in his Granny Myra’s kitchen. It was here that Josh learned the art of good food and secrets of chicken and biscuits. Working alongside his Granny he saw first-hand the job that her food brought to those who tasted it.

Josh went on to study history at University of Tennessee-Knoxville while working in local restaurants. While in the restaurant industry he became fascinated with the fast-paced environment, the clientele, and more importantly...the food! After graduation, he relocated to Charleston, SC where he continued to hone his skills as a chef as well as learn the proper way to make grits! Josh has crafted food in kitchens across the South and continues to combine his love of history with his passion for food. He is currently the “Sauce Boss” and co-owner of Y’all Company based in Winston Salem, NC where he lives with his wife Emily and their three children.

Josh also wants to do good in the world through Southern food. He is currently an owner and co-founder of Appalachian Gold, a food brand based in McDowell County, WV which highlights the richness of Appalachia through farm fresh and value added ingredients, majority from black owned farms, and converting those ingredients to shelf stable products. The mission of this company is to show the importance of black excellence in Appalachia, create economic stability in areas of rural poverty, and change peoples lives one bottle at a time.
