Originally, my Plan A was to be an astronaut. 🚀 I made it as far as a university scholarship, flight school and flying fast jets (very briefly). However, cataracts in both eyes, plus a quick transition to peace-loving hippy put that dream in my rearview mirror. (I still love aeroplanes, tho!)
Twenty-five years in the exciting (cough, cough) corporate world came to an end when they and I both pulled the ejection handles simultaneously. (But hey, any landing you can walk away from is a good one, they say... 🫣)
What I always knew was that I wanted to do something meaningful. And that meant helping others to do something they felt was meaningful. Plus, the entrepreneurial world is 1000X more me than cubicle life.
So I used my 'customer experience eyes' and writing ability to help friends with their startup businesses. And I took direct roles in a few of them. But I still hadn't found my distinctive value and how to apply it. And others could tell. If you've ever been there, you'll know that sinking feeling.
It wasn't until I met my business partner and Five Institute co-founder Nicholas Haines that I finally could see the essence of what I did well and naturally - with my eternal thanks to Nick for his Vitality Test and his Five Energies framework. And since 2007, I have helped others do likewise.

What is The Vitality Test measuring?
The Vitality Test measures your personal blend of five distinct Energies that the ancient Chinese first observed and identified 3,500 years ago.
The Five Energies are Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal.
Your blend of these Energies will predispose you to have certain feelings, thoughts and values. They influence how you see and respond to people, situations and the world at large.
Will The Vitality Test put me in a box?
No - we're a box-free zone! However, many personality tests tend to put you in a box, because they assess where you stand between two poles (for example Introvert versus Extrovert).
The advantage of these tests is that they are relatively easy to design and create a sense of certainty and security for people. The disadvantage is that the resulting boxes tend to end up limiting people, or don't quite explain the full variance of behaviour. Polarity-based thinking is also very divisive as it pushes people into one camp or another, which is the last thing society needs.
So, the Vitality Test doesn't measure along a polarity. Instead, it's identifying a pattern of behaviour with many sides to it.
Why are you offering these free sessions with no sales pitch?
Throughout my career, I have supported great work by others, first in the corporate world (where I held key roles in major retail banking launches), then over the past twenty years supporting fellow entrepreneurs in the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, America and Canada.
As a co-founder of Five Institute, I have supported our development there. I have always used the Vitality Test as a cornerstone of my Soul Centered Branding (positioning and copywriting) work with my private clients.
Because that work is so hands-on, I can only work with a few clients at a time. But I've seen how much people light up when they get these unique insights and discover how powerful they are.
