About me
I was told at a young age that if I ever wanted to breathe through my nose that I should move to a country with a warm climate. I was told this from a health care professional in a position of trust. I chose to believe this narrative for the next 20 years and it had a profound effect on my competitive sports performance and professional performance in work.
Due to being told that there was nothing that could be done about my chronically blocked nose I continued to mouth breathe, unknowingly stunting my athletic performances and the ability to concentrate and keep myself motivated. I developed poor sleeping habits and woke up morning after morning with a dry mouth and feeling exhausted. That need not have been the case.
I learned about the Oxygen Advantage just over 2 years ago through a podcast in which the founder of the Oxygen Advantage, Patrick McKeown, was being interviewed. He was describing how I was feeling with regards to my general health and well being, and how I felt when I was sleeping and exercising. I purchased his book and retrained how I breathed. I felt the benefits of nasal breathing and worked hard to implement functional breathing in all aspects of my life.
I decided that I wanted to impact peoples lives the way mine has been impacted, so I studied to become an Functional Breathing Instructor. It is my mission to teach functional breathing to as many people as I possibly can so that they can lead amazing, happy and exciting lives. How I can help
HOW YOU BREATHE AFFECTS HOW YOU LIVE!!!
Your quality of life is directly related to how you breathe.
Dysfunctional breathing is:
- loud
- laboured
- fast when at rest.
It is mainly through the mouth and into the upper chest. This type of breathing mimics how we breathe when we are in a stressful, scary or dangerous situation, and therefore produces the same physical, mental and emotional responses in our bodies.
Breathing in this manner is beneficial for us in specific situations, as it readies us to fight the danger or run away. However, if it is the primary way we breathe it will lead to a cascade of health and well being issues.Dysfunctional breathing leads to:
- A deterioration in your bodies ability to recover and recharge while you sleep
- Reduced energy and motivation each day
- Significant decline in the quality of your work
- Significant decline in your sporting performance
- Increase in stress hormones
- Increase in Blood pressure and associated weakening of your cardiovascular system.
The great news is you can help you take control of your breath, and guide yourself on a path of recovery with long term health improvements.
Functional Breathing is:
- Light
- Deep in the lungs
- Slow
- Through the nose.
If you are breathing in this manner you will notice:
- Increased levels of energy
- Better, more consistent sleep
- Better concentration and focus
- Reduced blood pressure
- Reduced resting heart rate
- More stamina and better recovery from exercise
- Calmer mind, less feelings of stress
- Less easy to temper.
I can teach you how to restore functional breathing that will help you lead a healthier and happier life. Book a 15 minute free consultation to have a quick chat with me about what you are currently experiencing.
