12 Facebook Live tips and best practices

Here is our 12 Step CHECKLIST for a successful Facebook Live πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€

‍

  1. Plan what you are recording. Decide where you’ll host your Live, what the goal of the streaming is, and know what you’re going to talk about.
    ‍
  2. Build anticipation by telling fans when you’ll be going live ahead of time. One day’s notice is enough time to build awareness. Also, ask your audience to submit questions via the comments section. This is a great way to engage with your audience before your interview begins.
    ‍
  3. Consider your location: backdrop, time of day, activity in your area. You want to have a clean background and no background noise disturbing the streaming. Also, check battery life and turn off notifications that might disturb your streaming.
    ‍
  4. Verify Internet connection. To check your upload speed (10 Mbps for good quality video), use a speed test tool such as Speedtest.net before you go live each time. Restart Your Computer, Close Down Background Apps to Free Up Memory, switch off devices or place them in airplane mode, so they’re not taking up Internet bandwidth.
    ‍‍‍
  5. ‍Test out live video using the "Only me" privacy setting. We suggest turning your phone horizontally so that your camera rotates to a landscape view for your live video - this makes broadcasts more visually appealing to your audience.
    ‍
  6. Put your notes as close to your camera as possible, so you don’t need to break eye contact with the camera. You could have a notepad file on your computer or sticky notes stuck to the screen.
    ‍
  7. Utilize Facebook Live Tools such as polls or featured links to help boost engagement and create the best possible experience for your viewers. Engagement increases watch time.
    ‍
  8. Keep reintroducing yourself and engage with the audience (Tip: mention viewers by name). Make it spontaneous. Don't worry about mistakes or stutters.
    ‍
  9. ‍Encourage viewers to Like, Comment, and Share the video to make the Facebook algorithm work in your favor.
    ‍
  10. Close with your call to action - where can people learn more, download your lead magnet or join your group (you can link relevant content in the description), and THANK your audience!
    ‍
  11. Once the streaming is finished, share, share and share. Share the reply on your page, group, profile, or FB Stories. We also recommend thinking about ways to repurpose your Facebook Live Videos.
    ‍
  12. Comments might be coming in long after your live streaming is finished, so make sure to keep an eye on notifications and answer all comments.

To make your life simpler, EVERY time before going Live, I encourage you to read this 2 minute checklist! πŸ‘†
